Why We Exist

A soldier's sacrifice ends on the battlefield. A family's does not.

When a soldier or police officer lays down their life for the nation, the ceremony, the salutes, and the headlines fade within days — but the family left behind carries that loss for a lifetime. Shakti Foundation was founded in 2016 to make sure that carrying it is never done alone. We work directly with the families of India's martyrs across Bihar, providing sustained social, economic, political, and legal support long after the cameras have left.

One Name. Two Forces.

Agni is the fire that speaks — media, awareness, and public voice. Shakti is the power that acts — the foundation behind India's martyr families.

AGNI — Voice & Awareness

Media, public awareness, and strategic communication that keeps the story of sacrifice and service in front of the nation — reporting on infrastructure, governance, and social development from the ground in Bihar, and making sure martyr families are seen, not forgotten.

SHAKTI — Strength & Support

Continuous social, economic, political, and legal support for the families of soldiers and police personnel who gave their lives in service to the nation — from the day of loss through every year that follows. A commitment made in 2016, and kept every year since.

Who We Support

Every Family Carries the Loss Differently

Our programs are built around three groups who need continued support long after the ceremony ends.

01

Widows & Spouses

Help navigating pension and benefit claims, livelihood support, and a community of other families who understand exactly what this loss means.

02

Children & Dependents

Education support and mentorship so a parent's sacrifice never becomes a reason a child's future is cut short.

03

Elderly Parents

Recognition, healthcare coordination, and regular check-ins for the parents of martyrs who often have no one else advocating for them.

How We Help

Four Pillars of Continuous Support

Not a one-time gesture — a standing commitment, sustained well beyond the ceremony itself.

Social Support

Ongoing community integration and recognition so families are never left isolated.

  • Counselling and emotional support referrals
  • Community events and remembrance gatherings
  • A peer network of other martyr families

Economic Support

Practical assistance so financial hardship never compounds an already devastating loss.

  • Livelihood and skill-training assistance
  • Coordination with welfare and relief schemes
  • Support for dependents' education costs

Political Advocacy

A direct line to the officials and institutions that decide what families are owed.

  • Representing family interests to government bodies
  • Following up on stalled benefit approvals
  • Policy engagement on martyr welfare issues

Legal Assistance

Guidance through paperwork that can otherwise take years to resolve alone.

  • Pension and gratuity claim support
  • Documentation and entitlement guidance
  • Referrals to pro-bono legal partners
How It Works

From First Contact to Ongoing Support

01

We Identify the Family

Through government records, community networks, or a direct request, we reach out to a martyr's family.

02

We Understand the Need

A home visit and conversation to understand what kind of support — social, economic, legal — matters most right now.

03

We Coordinate Support

Our team connects the family with the right scheme, official, or resource — and follows up until it's resolved.

04

We Stay Connected

Support doesn't end after one resolved case — families remain part of the Agnishakti community for the years that follow.

"A nation that forgets its martyrs' families does not deserve the sacrifice made for it. Shakti Foundation exists so that Bihar never forgets."
